Anderston steps into spring

A great day was had by all who attended the Spring Health Event in the Back Garden.The sun was shining, which makes a change,and everyone enjoyed participating in gardening,sewing,smoothies,complimentary therapies,home baking and soaking up the sunshine in good company.

Friday Film Night

35 people came along last Friday and enjoyed "The Help". Margaret was our wonderful usherette for the evening and served ice cold lollies and popcorn.

Spring Trip for Connects Project

Connects glasgow tour'But not on a Monday!' – This month (Monday April 16) saw 30 from the Connects project going for a bus tour around the highlights of Glasgow. Everyone met at the Byres Road bus stop and “clambered on” the 10.52 am bus heading off into town. The sun was shining so up top the bus was warm enough to sit out while some sat inside beside the bus guide and the rest were down stairs.

Easter Lunch Club

Full house with 42 attending the Easter Lunch Club on Monday 2nd April at the Annexe Cafe. On the menu was Farmhouse Soup, Butternut or Chorizo Frittata and salad, finished off with Easter ice cream. Lovely atmosphere with loads of chat going on with some folk turning up with their Easter bonnets on. A demonstration on how to create a makeshift Easter bonnet took place, too much hilarity. Thanks to Tony, Margaret, Greg and Angie for helping everything run smoothly.


Alternative Saturday Night

On Saturday 31st March we held our 'Spring' alcohol free Saturday night entertainment event. The wonderful 'Beggar Girls' played to an audience of around 70 people. We also had an open mic spot for our talented regulars - including the multi-talented Margaret Thomson who played a harmonica medley with a few jokes added in (pictured right). Finally we all celebrated the 80th birthday of Anne Mathews - our resident Annexe mascot.

Anderston Health Open Day

The sun shone on Anderston on Tuesday 27th March at our community health open day held at the Back Garden site on Brechin Street. 53 people came along and took part in gardening workshops, complementary therapies, smoothie tasting, crafts, healthy cakes. Of course some weeding and planting was carried out as well - getting the community garden prepared for the growing season. Thanks to the volunteers - the G3 Growers group for helping out on the day!

Spring Open Day

Last Friday - 23rd March we had a very successful community health open day. 120 people particpated in the event, with a subsidsed healthy lunch and free taster sessions including jewellery making, complementary therapies, health walk, screen printing, soup demonstration and smoothie tasting.

February Lunch Club

Tony, our cook and Rod his assistant served up 35 heart warming meals at our special Valentine Lunch Club eatlier this week. The cafe was festooned with hearts and twinkly lights and diners dressed in red to match the valentine theme. Everyone enjoyed the three course valentine lunch:

Festive Lunch Club

Monday 12th December saw, the Annexe Cafe decked with decora Entertainerstions, and over 30 folk enjoying a Christmas Lunch Club served up by Tony, Rod and Margaret – aka Santa’s Little Helper. Margaret Thomson turned up with a bag load of sparkly hats to add to the festive atmosphere.

Come along and visit the Annexe Cafe for lunch or just a chat and cup of tea. Take a break from the cold and enjoy a bowl of our home made soup and bread for only £1.70 or a refreshing cup of tea with a home-made scone only £1.50. If your needing something more substantial then our main lunch menu starts from £3.00. Open 10.00am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday.

New Year Activities

Our new year activity brochure will be available from Monday 19th December. Choose your activities for the New Year, you could join a walking group, start an exercise class or sign up to learn a new skill or take up a new hobby such as photography. Annexe Connects Open Day

Last Friday at the Annexe Connects Open Day the weather might not have been so good outside, but inside was a wee hive of healthy and creative activity and connections. The event ran to plan with just over 50 folk enjoying each other’s company and activities ranging from beetroot, strawberry and apple juice smoothies to Indian Trip inspired block printing Art session with Lynsay and Jen. Halloween Lunch Club

Around 30 older people in fancy dress costume came along for our Halloween special lunch club on 31st October. A spectacular circle dancing session, with everyone still in full costume, followed lunch.

Halloween Alternative Saturday Night

Over 60 souls, gouls and ghosts, witches and warlocks attended our alcohol free Saturday night entertainment event on 29th October. Anne Chaurand and friends entertained us with lute music, accordion playing, singing, penny whistles and guitar music from all corners of the globe.

British Heart Foundation 10k

Sunday 23rd October 2011 saw Annexe Connects take part in the British Heart Foundation 5k or 10k in Pollok Park. Everyone taking part did so for different health and social reasons, helping themselves at the same time as helping others.

Annexe Communities on Community Force

Annexe Communities is one of the projects seeking support from the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Community Force initiative.

Healthy living initiatives extended to March

Annexe Communities’ outreach work to take healthy living activities to new areas of Glasgow has been extended and won the backing of the North West Sector community health partnership (CHP) until next March.

Back Garden project goes live

Opening day at the back gardenAfter months of careful nurturing, the community vegetable garden at Brechin Street, Anderston went live on June 26. We are now supporting the G3 Growers Group of residents to become a formally constituted organisation and build their capacity to manage the site.

Alternative Saturday Nights seeks funding

The Annexe’s innovative and hugely popular programme of alcohol-free Saturday night entertainment is facing possible closure unless a new source of funding can be identified.

Annexe Connects wins BIG funding

An exciting Annexe project to help reconnect nearly 550 older people and carers with their local communities in west central Glasgow has won £275,000 of backing from the BIG Lottery Fund.
