Big Lottery Funding

The Annexe has been successful in being awarded a grant of £628,000 by The Big Lottery Fund to support the Connects Project.

Number 5

The Annexe stained glass group were privileged to be invited to design the number 5 for the countdown of the opening ceremony for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Annual General Meeting

Annexe Communities' members are warmly invited to our twelfth Annual General Meeting, being held on Wednesday 20th November at 6pm. The AGM will be followed by the official opening of our newly refurbished first floor. Refreshments will be avialable afterwards.

Refurbishment - almost finished!

The Annexe refurbishment is nearing completion - albeit a bit later than expected. We hope to move into the offices and get the cafe ready for opening week beginning 4th November. Watch this space and our Facebook page for details and dates.


Unfortunately our cafe will be closed from July to October, whilst the Annexe building is being refurbished. We can't give an exact date yet when it will reopen - watch this space!

Cowcaddens Cooking Demos

In May and June Nicola gave six weeks of Cooking Demos at Cowcaddens Residents Hall. Interesting and varied recipies were introduced and everyone recieved recipe booklets to take and try out at home. Patricipants benefited from nutritional health benefit information handouts and experienced many new ingredients and flavours. We hope to return to Cowcaddens in October. Keep an eye on our website for details.

Anderston Cooking Demos

Two of our Annexe volunteers making some simple and delicious recipes at Anderston Cooking Demos in May this year and showing some safe cooking skills.Many people benefited each week from these workshops and we hope to continue them in October.

Anderston Health Walks

Anderston walkers enjoying a rare glimpse of Glasgow sunshine in Kelvingrove Park and have a chat about plants and borders to British Trust Conservation Volunteers. Good work people!

Annexe Communities Volunteer Lunch

We held a celebratory lunch in April to thank all our volunteers for their invaluable contribution to the work of the Annexe. Volunteers from across west Glasgow took part in the lunch - thanks also to Tony, our cafe cook. Our volunteers help in a variety of ways; assisting with cooking classes, complementary therapists, marketing, walk leaders, event organisation and much more. Thanks again!

Annexe Open Day

The Annexe spring open day was held on Friday 12th April. Over 80 people attended and took part in taster activities such as line dancing, complementary therapies, heritage photography and Smoothie demonstartions. Good news was also announced...

Annexe Open Day

The Annexe held its latest community health and wellbeing open day on Friday 1st February. The event started with a very informative session on how to reduce your energy bills and Partick Housing Association was on hand to offer advice on housing and debt issues. 95 people attended on the day and took part in a wide range of taster activities including a very popular line dancing class. Nicola demonstrated delicious winter soups, offering samples to taste and of course recipe leaflets.

Time Capsule Burial

Remember, remember, the fifth of November! Now we will remember, not only for Guy Fawkes but also the day the Annexe Connects time capsule was buried, to be opened again on the first Monday in November 2112.


Health and Well-being Day

82 people and a pigeon turned up and took part in the Annexe Health and Wellbeing Day last Friday, lots of new faces with fresh input and some new ideas. Lovely to see everyone mixing with each other, trying out different activities, making things, chatting, meeting up with old and new friends. One person said that they met up again with a friend that they had lost touch with over 20 years ago!

Annexe Connects up with British Heart Foundation

Sunday 14th October saw an intrepid team from Annexe Connects take part in the 5k or 10k walk/run in Pollok Park raising funds for the British Heart Foundation. They walked aiming to raise £200 funds but also look part for their own health benefits too.

Friday Night Film Club- featuring Neil Diamond in “The Jazz Singer”

Letty's t shirt25 people came along on Friday 28th September to enjoy a wee sing-along with Neil Diamond, in his motion picture debut as Yussel Rabinowitz, in the film “The Jazz Singer”. Quite coincidentally the showing took place 2 days after the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur featured in the film! !

AGM and Volunteer Awards 2012

Following our busy annual general meeting on 19th September, we held a spectacular Annexe Volunteer Awards ceremony with red carpet, paparazzi and oscar trophies. Twenty volunteers were nominated (and won) in various categories in our mock Hollywood Oscar awards. With fierce competition from Nigella Lawson, Ann won the best cookery volunteer award and pitched against the Dali Lama, Christina and Grace won out for the best complementary therapist volunteers.

Ahoy me hearties !

Secure to the main braceAhoy, me Hearties.! 40 Connects Project particpiants (60+ and adult carers) took to the high seas on Monday 20th August dressed as pirates for a day out to Largs on the Waverley. All wearing an assortment of pirate hats, bandanas, stripy tea-shirts, eye patches, swashbuckles and blow up parrots or a duck...-don’t ask?- on their shoulders. Aaaarrrrhhhh
