Benefits of volunteering
While volunteering focuses on the needs of others, it also enriches the person through new friendships, increased self- knowledge, insight into others, and the relationship between each other and the local community. For some volunteers it can be a catalyst to move forward to lifelong positive change and is a great way to gain skills and make a lasting impact with their work! It ultimately builds on self-reliance.
Volunteering provides a reason to get up in the morning, be more active, and engage with other people. It builds a personal sense of purpose and allows people to look forward to their lives. It reduces stress and provides physical and mental rewards. Volunteering brings people together it also allows you to

- Give back. – People like to support community resources that they use themselves or that benefit people they care about.

Younity Project “Behind the Scenes” Volunteer Group
Staff will provide mentoring support and facilitate appropriate training for new volunteers and build their capacity to work together as a group.
Younity Project staff will facilitate opportunities for volunteers to come together on a quarterly basis and become a member of the “Behind the Scenes” volunteer group, providing opportunities to share experiences, discuss issues and solutions, exchange ideas and create an identity as Younity volunteers.
From previous projects we have also found that volunteers can be inspired to establish their own activity eg writing group /drama group, this too may be facilitated.
