Annexe Communities project officer, Jane Cowie, has led the Partick walk for years. She always takes the opportunity to remark on the time of day when the group arrives at Partick Cross.

One walker, a life-long local resident, once asked Jane how she could tell the time without ever looking at her watch. Jane simply pointed up to the large clock atop the red sandstone tenements at the junction.

The walker was amazed. He had never noticed the clock before, had never looked up to see Partick from a different perspective.

Health walks: stepping out to fitnessA small anecdote perhaps, but it amply illustrates how Annexe health walks can rekindle interest a local community and help to change how people not only regard their neighbourhood, but also interact with it. With these changes come not only improved fitness, but also a sense of wellbeing that comes from becoming more closely aware of your surroundings.

We have been organising and delivering Health Walks in Glasgow since 2005 and during that time thousands of people of all ages have enjoyed the benefits of walking in and around the city. They remain very popular and are designed for all ages and capabilities, whether beginner or more experienced and are an excellent medium for keeping fit, getting to know a locality and meeting new friends.

Our Partick health walks are held twice weekly. No pre-booking required so participants can simply turn up and complete the registartion paperwork.

Partick – Annexe Healthy Living Centre

  • Mondays 11am – 12pm (Gentle Health Walk)
  • Thursdays 2pm – 3pm
